We invite you to learn about the TLG difference below!
Where is Tuckahoe Learning Grove located?
TLG is conveniently located in the heart of the West End of Richmond at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 9000 St. Martin’s Lane.
What Is the Enrollment Process?
Our enrollment process follows three easy steps!
1️⃣ Schedule a Tour – Explore our learning spaces and see if TLG is the right fit for your child.
2️⃣ Apply for Enrollment – Submit your application to secure a spot.
3️⃣ Complete Registration – Fill out the final forms and get ready for an amazing kindergarten experience!
What is the daily schedule?
Currently TLG operates on a 3 day/week schedule. We are open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Each day, we will focus on content and our core subjects (phonics, math, writing, fine motor skills + units such as: seasons, holidays, community helpers, life cycles, plants, etc) while seamlessly integrating nature connections and plenty of creative and outdoor play! We will also regularly participate in: project-based learning, science experiments, STEAM activities, creative play, music, and art!
Why is the school day shorter than other schools?
At TLG we focus on creating a highly engaging and purposeful learning environment. In nontraditional school settings like ours, we find that less time is required to achieve meaningful outcomes. Smaller class sizes minimizes distractions and each child receives an adequate amount of attention, thus lessening behavioral distractions. Students remain focused and engaged throughout their lessons, maximizing learning in a shorter amount of time. Our program also eliminates transitions between classrooms and long arrival and dismissal procedures, allowing our learning sessions to be productive, positive, and efficient. We focus on quality – not quantity – in our hands-on approach to learning. Even in a shorter amount of time, children are engaged in impactful, curiosity-driven learning.
What is the cost of tuition?
TLG offers two flexible enrollment options, paid in full or in 10 monthly installments:
Full time (5 days/week): $7500/year
Part time (3 days/week): $5625/year
What curriculum does TLG use?
We will use a combination of KinderPhonics and The Good and the Beautiful for Reading, and Kindergarten Math with confidence for Math. Both of these programs are comprehensive and align with our values of hands-on, developmentally-appropriate learning.
How will I know what progress my child is making?
Tuckahoe Learning Grove uses a mastery-based approach to demonstrating progress, rather than a grades-based approach. What does this mean? This means your sweet kindergartner will not be worried about grades or tests! Progress will be regularly evaluated through learning activities and shared with families.
Is Tuckahoe Learning Grove the right fit for my child?
At Tuckahoe Learning Grove, we believe in nurturing core academic skills while also recognizing the immense value of learning beyond the traditional classroom experience. We offer small class sizes to ensure personalized attention and promote individualized learning, allowing each child to thrive in their own unique way.
Our approach fosters kindness, curiosity, and a sense of wonder, encouraging children to explore the world around them through play, exploration, and inquiry. Childhood is a time of discovery, and we’re committed to making every moment count. Together, let’s give them one more year to experience the magic of childhood!
Tuckahoe Learning Grove serves as both a co-op for homeschooled students as well as a comprehensive junior kindergarten & kindergarten program for students ages 4-7.
